To recognize the outstanding achievements and high potential of women who aspire to enter the field of accounting and finance, the Grand Rapids chapter of AFWA proudly hosts an annual scholarship competition. Scholarships are available to female students pursuing undergraduate degrees in accounting or finance who attend a local college or university.

The 2025 AFWA scholarship application period will open in Spring 2025. Applications will be accepted February 15th through April 15th, 2025.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2024 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Lauren Murray attends Grand Valley State University, where she is graduating this spring with a Bachelor’s Degree of Business Administration in Accounting. Lauren plans to continue her studies after graduation and earn a Master’s Degree in Accounting from GVSU. She is a member of Alpha Beta Psi, the Peter C. Cook Leadership Academy, and the Seidman Mentorship Program. Lauren’s career goal includes becoming a Certified Public Accountant, focused in audit.

Emlyn Verbrigghe attends Western Michigan University, where she will be a senior next fall. She is majoring in Accounting. Emlyn is currently serving as Vice President in her Beta Alpha Psi Chapter, is involved in Accounting Club, and is a member of WMU’s Swimming Club. In the future, Emlyn plans to attain a CPA designation and pursue a career in financial accounting.
